A FIVE STAR PROGRAM IN VERMONT'S STEP-AHEAD RECONGNITION SYSTEM (STARS)
Our Mission
For over 40 years, we have strived to provide all of our enrolled children with something extra special and exciting, a place where they will be nurtured, loved and respected for their individuality, where their self confidence will be nourished and they will be given the opportunity to thrive. Once enrolled, you'll be convinced LSYC is the perfect place for your child's first learning experiences "away from home."
Our Philosophy
Mary Lou Kinney once wrote, "it takes large doses of trust, courage and innocence to repeatedly take on the world when you are less than three feet tall." At the Lawrence School for Young Children, everyone is given respect, guidance, encouragement, and support, which empowers each child with the confidence to practice new skills and to "take on the world." This is our uppermost priority - as well as developing each child's happiness, self-esteem, creativity, and an astonishing enthusiasm and love for learning! Our environment is relaxed, loving, cheerful, enthusiastic, and considerate of others. This is achieved through our school's physical appearance and, most importantly, our teachers' styles and attitudes. Our teachers are patient, warm, caring, upbeat, creative, attentive, flexible, spontaneous, and love being with young children......taking on the roles of coach and cheerleader.
STARS
LSYC has a rating of 5 out of 5 stars in Vermont's STARS program.
This is a voluntary program which measures the quality of early childhood programs
in a wide variety of arenas based on criteria that is above and beyond what is required
to be licensed. This rating also allows us to partner with the area school districts to provide
10-20 free preschool hours/week for our 3 and 4-year-olds during the school year session.
